I am trying to help my buddy fix up his back yard. It is surrounded by an 8 foot tall cinder block wall that has the worst stucco job on it I have ever seen.
He wants to paint it but I have explained to him you will still see the terrible looking stucco no matter what color you paint it. I also think its a waste of time an effort to wash it, patch all the missing stucco, fill the cracks then paint it all.
Planting anything is not an option either, we have a major drought going on and his two huskies would probably destroy any plants.
The only thing I have come up with is to install PT 2x4's to the wall then add horizontal or vertical boards ( spaced no more than .25" so the stucco is hidden) to give it a fence look. I could probably do that for under $2500, but I am looking for alternatives that I may have missed. He wants maintenance free so I was thinking cement board but not lap siding. I assume its available.
Having the stucco redone and painted is an option, but I think it will just crack like what is there now. Seems a waste to do that when for $2500 I could just cover it with a faux fence look and not worry about the stucco.
Am I missing an easier solution to this 210' of wall, any ideas would be appreciated.
