I'm replacing outlets and switches around the house, and if I'm ignoring the quick-wire/back-wire/push-in method using the back side of the receptacle, it seems like I can connect wires to the screw terminals in two ways:
A) I can insert the wire below a brass plate, curl it around the screw a little bit, and tighten down the screw, which forces the plate against the wire, sandwiching it between two brass plates.
B) I can insert the wire above a brass plate, curl it around the screw 3/4 of a full turn, and tighten down the screw, which forces the head of the screw against the wire, sandwiching it between the head of the screw and the top brass plate.
I'm guessing either method is okay, method A apparently providing more force downward but maybe a little more likely to pull back if disturbed, and method B providing less force downward but more resistance against pulling back due to the wire being looped more.
Is there a name for these two ways of connecting a wire to the screw terminals?
Is one of these methods preferred? Is either NOT okay?
Are all receptacles made with this plate nowadays and the option of either method? It seems to me you used to only have one option (B), but I could be mistaken.
