I recently purchased a home that had horribly installed trim throughout the entire house. It wasn't level, didn't go the floor, huge gaps and no caulking. I tore it all out and am in the process of selecting new trim. For all the doors and entryways, I want to go with flat 1x4 casing on the side with a 1x6 flat header and attach some decorative crown at the top.
My question is, can I just use stock 1x4 poplar for the casing, or does it have to be made specifically for trim? Other than the edges of the casing will be pretty sharp and not rounded, I can't think of any other reason I can't use the cheaper stock 1x4.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for the help!
Matt
