That’s not correct.
A spreader needs to be calibrated to be effective, material spread depends on walking speed, size of the grain of material, and wind speed.

you can calibrate a spreader by setting up and area of 1000 sq ft.
Putting material in and spreading it.
If you trust yourself in getting the right amount of material down, you can just go back and forth, or you can do half the setting and criss cross

People actually calibrate their spreaders! 1st thing I do with anything is throw away the instructions! I never have without problems. Everything I put down has a different size product. So what do the numbers mean? So if I need to put down 5#/1000 how do I do this without calibrating the spreader?

Thanks.

OK, I looked up the speedy green manual and it says it is precalibrated for Scott's products, other products you need to calibrate. I read negative things about scotts products these days so I'll do my best to estimate setting. Thanks. Brian
