I have a fridge and a freezer in the basement. The floor does get wet sometimes, so NEC requires GFCI on all receptacles.
Most of the receptacles are never used, but may be daisy-chained so one GFCI can protect several receptacles downstream.
That said, I have the fridge on a dedicated circuit that has an older (Leviton in a blue box labeled "UL 2003"). The freezer is also on a dedicated branch but has no GFCI.
I happen to have a couple of new-old-stock of the Leviton "Smart Lock" labeled UL 2003. I was told or read that newer GFCI's (2015 and later) are less prone to nuisance trips - which is something I don't want for a fridge or freezer. That said, the fridge has been plugged into the 2003 GFCI for several years and has never nuisance tripped. I have tested it regularly and it is still functional.
My gut feeling is to buy newer GFCI to replace the one for the fridge and install on the freezer receptacle as well.
I have the same model GFCI in the laundry room for the washer and dryer. No nuisance trips there either, but I'm not going to worry if the washer or dryer shuts off mid-load. The fridge or freezer would be a different story.
If I do buy new stock, which brand/model is recommended for critical appliances like fridge and freezer?
Thanks for your help
