Hi all. I am putting together a 4x staircase with 4x treads, and I am using the Simpson TA10Z staircase angle brackets. Treads are 46.5" wide. Simpson calls for their SDS 1/4" x 1.5" screws to install these staircase angles.
I am wondering... since the material is 4x, will I benefit from using a longer SDS screw? Say, like jumping up to the 2" SDS screw? Not necessary? Price difference is minimal. I am only dealing with 7 treads for this small staircase. Just curious if the thicker 4x lumber will benefit, or require a longer 2" or 2.5" screw. I suppose 1.5" of embedded screw should suffice. Whadya think?
Thanks!
