RESOLVED
I have a pair of antique glass door knobs. I want to remove the spindle to replace it with a swivel spindle for use with new privacy door latches. There are only a setscrews on one of the knobs, so I don't know how or if I can completely remove and replace the spindle.
Is there a way to safely remove the spindle from the knob without set screws? If so, can the replacement swivel spindle be threaded into that side, or is that knob shank not threaded like the other?
(Regarding vintage vs reproduction comments - these are vintage. They came off doors in my wife's grandparents family home in Queens NY, circa 1920s. They have been in the family for going on 100yrs. That history is precisely why I'm reusing these knobs in another house rather than buying new ones.)
This is a photo of one of the knobs and the new swivel spindle. Right shank has 2 set screws opposite one another. Left shank has none.
