I'm trying to replace my shower valve. I'm pretty sure it's a Delta RP19804 cartridge, so i bought one and am ready to install it.

I turn off the water main, and it seems like there is still pressure in the line even after turning on a faucet for minutes. Is this normal?

Then, I have difficulty pulling out the cartridge. I have removed all of the retaining nuts/rings, but cannot pull it out without fear of damaging the old one. Is there a good way to grab ahold of it? I tried to wedge some flathead screwdrivers in there, but I'm afraid of breaking the old valve.

After looking at some videos, I had to make sure I have the right cartridge. It looks different, but I think the function is the same since the RP19804 style ones I think might have some variations, yet are all compatible (?)

If the main shutoff won't turn all of the way off, I assume I will just be pulling the old cartridge out and deal with the slow water leak while I'm replacing. That's why I'm hesitant. If the new cartridge is not compatible, then I'll have water running slowly until I can call a pro to come out. There's a draught here in California....

Yes, I know the large retaining nut is on there. I'd need to remove it before taking out the cartridge.

Wrong cartridge you need the

the thing
Thanks -what's weird about that is that the one you point to looks correct, and I ordered the model RP19804 and received the one in my picture. I actually think that my part is a replacement with a slightly different hot/cold actuation technique that should be compatible. Any other thoughts?
