I have a rotting fascia board that needs replacing on the upper side of a one sided roof. Because of its position it's angled outwards into the weather, plus the existing nails weren't hammered all the way in on one side, so that's probably why it rotted.
I got a quote to have a roofer replace it and they want quite a bit for what I thought would be a simple job. I'm pretty handy, although not as much as some here, so I figured I could try to replace it myself.
On closer inspection there is a furring strip between the fascia and drip edge. Can I just pull the nails from the board and pull it out? Or do I need to remove the furring strip too? The soffit is stucco on something, not sure what though, plywood maybe? Will that crumble if I remove the fascia attached to it?
The roofer thought there could be nails through the roof panels into the fascia board that would complicate things more. But is that common? I'm in S. Florida so maybe they do it for extra strength.
Picture below. The board is about 10ft long.
