One of the contractors that came out to bid on our new system said the duct boots are wrapped in asbestos and he would recommend having the asbestos removed at a cost of up to $650. I asked him why can't the boots just be replaced and he said they can't because they are nailed in and such. Seems like a BS answer to me, but I don't know.
This system was a retro install some 30 years ago, it didn't come with the house, the house wasn't built around it. It seems to me the boots could be removed and replaced.
Any thoughts? Anyone have any experience with this?
