FTXN12NMVJU. 4 year old discontinued model so no heads available. Coil about $240 delivered. A pain to take apart but fairly straight forward. Until the last clip, could see it, knew how it should release and it would not move. Down to it either breaks or comes out! Came out thankfully.

Inside of unit is fairly clean except blower wheel which has been removed twice for thorough cleaning.

In hindsight I should have checked if pc boards and other parts are available before replacing coil, might have been better buying new system.

Is the new coil copper tube or aluminum? If it is aluminum, less likely to leak I think.

The electronics should last I think as long as you don't get a power-surge.

This is the pitfall of mini-splits I guess, it's crazy to discontinue a head so soon.

The original and the replacement are aluminum tube with cooper U's on the end connecting them. I am going to take WAG this is done so the aluminum can be rifled or referred to as micro fins??

When I installed the mini's I read about the surge issue and installed a whole house surge protector. I am in SW FL, lightning capitol of the world. Now getting an L5 code on one of the other Daikins!

Copper tube going through the fins can look like aluminum because of the connections between the aluminum fins and copper tubes.

I doubt that they did a copper to aluminum connection on each U.

Interesting. We had the cover off my buddy's Mr. Cool head unit when we did the install and I wondered if it was even serviceable. Everything is packed so tightly. Now these clips, which I would bet may be similar across brands. Hopefully he gets enough years out of his that when they fail he'll just get new.

Post up a video to youtube of fastening that clip. I'd love to see it. You can leave off the soundtrack because I am sure there will be lots of cursing!
