In remodeling the bathroom, it would seem the new 1/2" Sheetrock is thinner than the old drywall. Since the old drywall is over 20 years old, I've no idea what its specified thickness is.

- What can be done to smooth the transition between old and new drywall thickness?
- Also, the old drywall on the right side has old paint that is chipping and should be removed. Is there a good way to remove the old paint? Sand it down? Or is there another technique?
