You must use #9 or #10 1 1/2" HDG nails on the flat and 2 1/2" or longer nails on the angle. Do not use sinkers. They will rust, and do not have the cross section needed. Simpson Strongtie makes the nails or screws you need, and they are designed for that purpose.
 
By "deformed shank" you are globally defining nails that are not smooth shanked, right? Yes, you can use them on sheathing at any stage. Screw shank nails are usually used on siding, while ring shanked nails are used for sheathing. The latter is normally loaded in a nail gun, while the screw shank is hand driven.
