Post Anchors Enough Support for Fence Posts?

Hello,

I searched but couldnt find an exact answer to my question.

I am going to building a fence for my grandmother at the side of her house with a gate to close off the walkway at the side. If you are looking at the house it will basically be an L shape (attached to the brick of the house and will go 6' to the right with a gate and then 6' back.

There is already a poured concrete walkway so i was planning on using post anchors to hold the 4x4 posts, i have seen two options and was wondering if they are enough to support the gate. I plan on anchoring the post nearest to the house to the brick for support with anchors and screws as well.

The post anchors i wanted to use are the black ones.

What type of actual fence are you planning on building? That will really affect how strong the posts need to be. Overall, the bottom bracket you posted will probably be strong enough but we need to know some more information about the type of offense and the type of gate you plan on using.

From previous experience they're not really a great solution.

I tried using these with a small 3ft section of fence with a 4ft gate, both only about 3ft tall.

I used a Simspon version of that with 1/2 concrete anchors and lags and within about a week of opening and closing the gate the things started to come loose.

It's more work, but you could cut out the concrete where posts need to go and re-pour with proper anchors set into the concrete. And have a little more piece of mind that things will be secure.

Sorry I do want to do it right but also I'm just trying to avoid a huge amount of work by drilling into existing cement walkway not to mention it won't match. Are these good with epoxy holding them in the cement?

Just an opinion... I'm with T Jansen...... not a sturdy lasting assembly.... but if it is mostly cosmetic and unused.... and cost/time/effort is important....

the epoxy (two part simpson) will hold.... the post base will wobnble.

Just an opinion/experience.

That actually looks like the post base I used.

I'm not an expert here, some one else might be able to help a bit more. But you could try some epoxy underneath it might help, It might also loosen up with time and moisture.

If you want to go this route I'd say just to make sure those lag bolts are extremely tight, if those bases are any bit loose when you put the posts in they will greatly amplify it.

The loads on a gate will pull just about any surface mount loose. There's just not going to be enough contact made between the post, the mount and the underlying concrete to make it work. Sad to say your choices are limited.
