I used 5" galvanized ductwork over the supports of our bird feeder years ago. I'd spray paint it with a hammered copper color spray paint and a spray primer. And every year or 2 I have to scrape off paint that is flaking off showing the clean galvanized. I'd sand it, rinse, let it dry, wipe with vinegar (household, not the higher % versions), let that dry then spray primer and then spray paint.
Doing it again this year - I found a rustoleum 'universal primer' spray paint that actually mentions it can be used with galvanized. Sanded the bare galvanized and feathered the edges of paint, rinsed, wiped iti dry. I'll prime it tomorrow.
Any thoughts / tips on trying to get it to stick to the galvanized? Is there non galvanized duct in 5"
I'd have better success with drain pipe - the white pipe material? But the top piece is already in place. I'd rather not have to take that off to slide a pipe down over the supports.
Think I could cut a pvc pipe along the length to get around the 4x4 verticals then glue the pipe together?
or other ideas?
