Hey y'all. A window replacement project in our house left us with some very large plantation shutters that we couldn't reuse for the windows. The shutters are 33"x82" and I intend to use them as makeshift barn doors to cover a bathroom opening in one of our guest rooms. I need some help with these doors.

The tilt bar on the shutters protrudes outward about 1/2" and I'm afraid that it will get caught when the 2 doors slide past each other. Any advice on how to either cut this down or replace with something flatter? (Pictures below).

Also, because I'm going to put up 2 doors I'm unsure of what hardware system to buy. It would be preferable that the doors are on two tracks but can slide together, like pulling the leading door will also pull the second door to close the opening and that you don't have to move each separately. (If that makes sense). Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Used as a door, do you really want to be able to tilt them?

I can't think of any option for a different tilter. And removing them will be a delicate and difficult job.

Your objective might be better accomplished at a profit by selling them and buying what you want as those are some real expensive panels.

@Colbyt, Sorry, no, I should have been more clear. I don't want to tilt them. I'm going to either nail or glue them permanently shut, but the tilt bar gives it character and I want to keep it for aesthetics. I'm just looking for a way to either replace it or shave it off and make it flatter.

Maybe you could glue a piece of flat screen mold on in place of it. The anchor for the hook goes deep into the existing rod and louvers.

Chance are very high that you will never match the factory finish.

Also there are plantation shutters with no rod they are called louver movers and are wired internally.
