my first thought is you have a failed cartridge in your faucet. Is the faucet a single handle? Can you tell the brand? Do have any water flowing out the hot side?

 

The faucet is a single handle. No water is leaking above or below the sink. Couldnt find a brand name.

You didn't give your location. As so many taps seem affected now, is a frozen pipe a possibility? As for your kitchen, and being a rental, I would also suspect a failed cartidge on an inexpensive tap.

 

I live in GA so no possibility of a frozen pipe. The dishwasher is also affected so not sure that its just a problem with a faucet.

 

When you say you have no hot water, does that mean that

1. No water at all comes out

or

2. The water comes out cold

?

I still think the cartridge in the faucet has failed. As a tenet you should inform the landlord. This is a maintenance issue not caused by you

Well, a kitchen faucet is usually pretty easy to replace with a crescent wrench and some plumbers putty. Depending on your faucet, sink, and cabinet design, you may need specialized tools... but they are seldom absolutely necessary in a kitchen.

However, this may violate you renter's agreement. And if there is a subsequent leak causing water damage, you may be liable for $1,000s in repairs. Plus it's like giving the landlord free money, that's probably the worst part!

you are not allowed to work on property that don't belong to you ..you could be sued if something happens.....Iam A landlord as well....call yours to have him fix the problem...ben sr

 

Figured out the problem. The house has another water heater (electric) in the basement that feeds the bathrooms. So I called the landlord over to light the pilot light on the other (gas) heater....ha ha. Its ok though because he didn't know either.

We thought so too. He said someone must have put it in because the bathrooms are so far from the original one. Maybe it was taking too long for the water to get hot? Sounds a little spoiled but.....works for me!
