Good Evening!

I'm new to the forum, but I'm hopeful that someone here can point me in a direction.

I recently built a natural gas firepit for our backyard. It is built out of steel studs, and enclosed in hardibacker. We used veneer stone on the sides and granite tile on the top of it.

The burner is a 24" double stainless steel ring with a 3/4 NG line running to it. It sits in a 30" square hole about 4" down. The burner sits on top of lava rock, which sits on top of some wire mesh (so that moisture will drain through.) On top of that we have fireglass. The fire ring holes are pointing down.

This link is not mine, but it's extremely similar to what I did, and my firepit was modeled after this gentlemen's design:

Anyway, here's the issue: When we run the firepit, after a while the fire seems to blow itself out. It does this with the slightest breeze, yet if you blow on it yourself you can't blow it out. It also varies with time...sometimes it happens within 5 minutes, sometimes we can have it on for an hour before it does it.

It seems everywhere I search on the internet, no one has this type of issue so I'm hoping it's something I screwed up along the way. But, I'm at a complete loss at this point. I don't know where to start looking for the issue.

Any suggestions would be great! Thank you so Much.

Adam
