News to me on fibafuse tape.

I was repairing a 4 foot crack in the kitchen ceiling caused by the previous homeowner putting a 4 bulb florescent light up in the kitchen. Instead of anchoring it to the joist, he used toggle bolts in the drywall. I took it down, put up a ceiling fan and 6 LED pot lights (the thin ones).
I ran to the box store and grabbed a bag of 20 minute hot mud and a one gallon pail of regular mud. I was getting a roll of fibafuse as well, but there was three guys standing in front of the spot discussing what and why they were going to use. Getting tired of waiting I reached around them and grabbed a roll and took off. When I got home, to my surprise, fibafuse also makes a fiberglass self adhesive tape as well. Since I was planning on bedding the tape with 20 minute I went ahead and used it. It's a lot thinner than the traditional fiberglass tape.

It worked fine, I just didn't know they made it.

I haven't seen that, I know a competitor has tape called fibatape but it looks like the old sticky tape which I try not to use. I've picked fibatape off of the shelf before thinking it was fibafuse but never made it out of the store with it.

I agree. Fibatape is just mesh tape, but if you say it is thinner than regular, then that's good. I don't think box stores carry Fibafuse tape.

My local Home Depot carries Fibafuse.

I use the Fibafuse occasionally but didn’t know there was a self-adhesive version. I’m not as big a fan of Fibafuse as most people are. I don’t find it to be any better than the old-style Fiberglas tape that everyone says “it will crack in due time.” I’ve done hundreds of drywall repairs with the old mesh style and never had a crack come back. I even did a 200 year old church with a 30 foot long corner crack and it looks fine after 15 years as I check on it anytime I do work there.

The only time I see cracks, mostly hair-line is when it's bedded with regular mud.

I taped one wall of my spray booth with sticky tape that had been given to me. I finished with hot mud except for the final coat. That was 25+ yrs ago and there are cracks along those seems. Hot mud helps but it's no garuntee although that room not being climate controlled probably played a part. Given a choice I won't use sticky tape .... and I have become a big fan of FibaFuse!

Your probably correct on the temp changes. I did my basement 10 years ago and knock on wood, no cracks yet.

I started using hot mud to bed the tape to save time waiting. I'm not a professional and sometimes don't wipe at tight as I should. So, using hot mud on the first application can save me a day of waiting. Sad thing is now that I might do a little repair here or there, I've gotten better at finishing.
