I got a new Ecobee Smart Thermostat - supposed to save money by being more efficient, can’t tell yet bc I can’t get the darn thing working.
Here’s how the old thermostat was wired. The Ecobee thermostat setup in the app told me to disconnect the jumper, so I did. It also told me to hookup the blue wire (not used here) to the Ecobee thermostat once I hooked it up.
And here's how the HVAC control board was wired. The extra red on the C terminal and extra white on the Y terminal are a pair of wires that I think follow the copper freon line for the AC. I connected the blue to the C terminal here as instructed in the Ecobee setup instructions.
Like I said, the Ecobee instructions told me to remove the jumper and told me to connect the blue wire to the C terminals at both the HVAC and thermostat.
Did everything as instructed, but Ecobee thermostat wouldn't even turn on. Eventually got the old thermostat set back up and AC is running again.
Any idea what I need to change? I have a feeling it has something to do with the extra red and white wire, but I'm not sure what to do with them.
