No. Not needed. Waste of time and money. For one thing … stain is to change or enhance color and grain … it does nothing to protect wood.

Saying stain does nothing to protect wood is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say,

You’re wrong. Stain by itself is pigment particles suspended in a carrier such as mineral spirits. What protection does that provide? Go ahead … you can say it … no protection at all.

If you buy a product with a sealer it will, for a short time, provide a water resistant film.

Stain … traditional pigment in a carrier … offers no protection. Stain with a sealer does offer protection.
