I'm trying to figure out how to get the trim plate from popping off on my lockset if I bump it the wrong way it comes off. The lock has no visible screws. There's a slot in the handle I'm guessing to get the doorknob off. Once the knob is removed how do I tighten down the trim plate.

I think you have a Schlage G series lock there. Loooooong discontinued and zero parts available. Do not remove anything but the knob and estucheon! Reinstalling inside mechanism is an almighty pain. First picture shows possible locations of the inside knob retainer (Orange and Red dots).

Second picture shows what you would see with the inside estucheon removed. The retainer for the inside estucheon is spring loaded and the spring may be broken. Third picture has a better view of the spring.
