How long ago was it trimmed out? how long before you noticed it sagging? is it loose or fill solid?


Unless something is loose I'd probably just cut out any offending caulk, recaulk and touch up the paint.

 

I'm not sure I only noticed it recently how's was built in '84 and the windows were upgraded before we bought he place. They are Harvey windows . When you try to push the molding up to fill the Crack, it takes a little muscle to do it. It feels solid. So just re-caulk it and then some touch up paint.?

 

It could be settling if not framed properly. But most likely the wood is drying out and contracting. Do you see any similar cracks anywhere else?
New lumber is notoriously wet. Once you install it into a new house, seal it up tight as drum, add AC or other drying HVAC and the lumber begins to move.

 

So just re-caulk it and then some touch up paint.?

That is what I'd try first, if everything is secure it will be a long term fix. I couldn't count the new houses I've had to recaulk where the framing has dried out or settled. Barring any further movement the fix is pretty much permanent.

 

When following Mark's advise, be sure to use a paintable caulk and not silicone. Paint won't stick to silicone caulk.
