I ordered some blackout film for my window, and when it arrived, the instructions said to leave a 1/16 inch gap around the edges of the film. Why is it important to leave a gap around the edges? Wouldn't the gap let light through?
I've looked at pictures of other people installing blackout film, and many of these pictures don't show a gap. Some people even talk about how they cut the film slightly too large so that all of the window would be covered or how they used electrical tape to cover up any gap. Is it better to leave a gap or cover 100% of the window?
Can covering 100% of the window somehow damage the window? Maybe it has something to do with the film absorbing heat?
