Installing a 6x6 clothesline post

Ah yes. I remember the earlier thread

I bought a 12 feet 6x6 pressure treated post for a clothesline (see picture below). It is in good condition (no major checking), but I will let it dry outdoors for a month before installing it.

I would have ensured that the PT post is rated for ground contact, but perhaps all 6x6s are, and maybe it's not necessary if it is encased in concrete.

I live in Canada (southern Quebec), cold/snowy winter and hot summer. I'm only an amateur and need advice, but my plan is to wrap it with a sleeve (like Postsaver) for extra rot protection at ground level and bury it 3 feet deep. A few questions...

Three feet isn't deep enough in central Canada - it is typically four - but your municipality or an online 'frost table' will show the frost depth for your area.

1) Is it ok to use a 10 feet diameter sonotube or does it really have to be longer? Length of sonotube has to be 3 feet long?

Huh??

2) Should add rebar for extra concrete strength? If so, how many?

3) Can I skip the sonotube and pour only 1 bag of concrete at the bottom of the post (above 5" of gravel) and fill the rest of the hole with compact soil? If I fill out the hole with more than one bag of concrete, I worry that it would be a hassle to remove the post in the future. It will probably require special equipment, etc. Is this method acceptable for clothesline post?

I agree that a sonotube isn't really necessary if the hole has a decent smooth bore of undisturbed earth like you will get if you use an auger. I doubt backfilling with soil will be enough lateral support. If you are trying to install this with ease of future removal in mind, save your effort and don't bother installing it. It needs to be installed solid enough based on what you want it to do, not on how easy it will come out. Besides, depending on which reference you use, that post will weight between 130 and 150 lb,

I would appreciate any other advice.
