Exactly how are you checking with your tester?

yeah,,,,,see..........

I have a non contact and a circuit tester...

I test them just like i would with any other switch or outlet...

I guess I am a bit confused as to your question...

Are you asking me if I know how to use them (the answer is yes)
guess he told you,,,,,,,,,,

I'm sure he used his tester hot to ground, and checked for open neutral too....

There was mention of checking the breaker.......and the whole basement was on with that switch circuit............

Wonder if he has a continuity tester to maybe find where that box and other boxs are fed from....wonder if there is a ceiling fan, in the basement I doubt it but I've seen them..sometimes the splices in those boxes open....
wonder what changed...whats different....why they worked.then didn't...interesting...

It's Alfred's emergency belt-buckle Bat call signal ! He's in trouble! :batman:

This post is reminding me of last year.....
Lost power, then to a circuit (one light)...(basement with garage area also).........house was about 10 or 15 yrs old,...he started blaming the utility company and maybe a lightning strike............I checked panel and meter....everything seemed fine.......power out on all breakers.....

He didn't want me to look for the problem (another free B).......... He found the problem all right and sent me a picture.........

Didn't mean for my remarks to be condescending, if taken that way I apologize.

In fact, I thought it was to an outlet 6 ft down and to the left but both of those are constant hot so no dice there...I checked all of the other outlets in the basement and notta....
maybe it is maybe not.....
maybe someone replugged and did't break the tab on the recpt. off....

maybe not.....

Given your pictures it looks as if his issue was buried inside the wall...is that accurate?

accurate.

And to tell you the truth I don't know how he found it OR if I could have found it....

did he smell smoke... was the wall hot.....did he use some type of circuit tracer ?????????
I'll never know.
