The switch shown works only with instant-reversing motors. It cannot change the direction of a standard motor.

To change the direction of the motor shown, T5 and T8 need to be swapped. In order to accomplish this, the reversing switch needs to have 4 or 6 terminals.

This is pretty easy to do using a basic double pole double throw toggle switch, and if the switch has a center off position, it can be configured up - off - down. If the switch has no center position, then it's up - down and a separate on - off switch is needed.

Thanks micromind,
I thought a reversable motor was what I needed and the switch made the change.
But I did hook up the toggle switch and it works good. Not to mention the education you get when something is wrong. I learned more about motor wiring in the last 3 days, it made my screw up worth while.
That's great!!

You're right, no one learns anything in success, but working through a failure is the best education ever.

P.S. The fact that you were able to get a toggle switch to reverse a motor is quite an accomplishment. I doubt if 1 out of 10 electricians could make it work.
