I am re-doing a shower, removing old tiles and walls and installing all new walls and tiles. I have been watching many videos online, some posted by professionals, and yet, I can't figure out what is the "code-approved" and proper way of doing this. My questions are:
1- Greenboard vs, cement board? Can either be used?
2- Waterproofing paint - do I need to apply waterproofing paint? (the green or red stuff, not sure what they call them?)
3- Before laying the greenboard or cement board, do I need to put on some moisture barrier? i
4- If the walls are not going all the way to the ceiling, do I need to take the greenbaord/cement board all the way up?
Please note, I am not looking for the best way of doing it, rather interested to know what the min code requirement is (min requirement=cheapest). Also, note that my house was built in the 80s and has tile over drywall. I don't even think it is greenwall or coated wall. Just plain drywall it seems.
Thanks in advance.
