I'm trying to fix the mess created by POs or their incompetent contractors who taped flex duct with regular duct tape without any connectors, all over the place. Including stuff like taping two pieces of insulted flex duct to each other which completely failed at some spots. As expected, the ducts are leaking air all over into my ventilated attic and I'd like to fix it properly. What would be the right way to do this? Remove the duct tape, add clamps and connectors where they are missing, then foil tape? Or HardCast mastic tape (that I was able to get from Amazon) instead of the foil tape? Or foil tape for the flex ducts, mastic tape elsewhere?
