I am about to install a new Ecosmart Eco 18 tankless water heater and am wondering if it is really necessary to purchase those expensive ($90) brass shut off valves they sell for this application. I know a relief valve is necessary and will be installing one, and will have metal lines on the heater (because of heat) but is there another way to do it besides those shut off valves? I've also read the screen in the incoming water line can get stopped up and cause problems later, when it will be difficult to access it. Would a better solution be to remove that screen and install some water filtration unit in-line? I'm a little leery about the sturdiness of some of the filtration units I've seen. Thanks for any comments!
