I have a building with a roof that was installed before the fascia was finished -- it looks like the roofers mistook the subfascia for the fascia.
So, there's a roof with shingles that hang out pretty much exactly over the fascia, and the drip edge is behind the fascia.
I'd like to install gutters (there are none), and ideally extend the drip edge while I'm at it.
Something like a D-type drip edge would effectively extend the roof deck farther out, maybe past the fascia if I can get something wide enough, but the shingles would still stop short of the edge. Aside from it looking a little bit funny, would that be a problem? Or should I go with a different profile?
Assuming I need to take out the old drip edge to install this new one. It would be less work to keep the existing one there, I think, as it's behind the fascia, but I can probably pull it out sideways if I get it completely untacked; the fascia's not nailed into it or anything, it appears.
I guess another option would be to remove the fascia altogether, and just finish and paint the subfascia. Is that a terrible idea? Having a replaceable face up there is a nice idea, but given the work to compensate, maybe it would be better as is.
Maybe that's enough questions for now! What do folks think?
