Do chimney spark arrestors really work?

Dave, In NYC the main use of spark arrestors was to stop papers & other things from escaping from incinerators. It reduced the chance of a fire starting in the next building. A secondary use was to stop rain & animals from entering the chimney. Eventually, a scrubber was added to reduce the smoke. It use a fine spray of water. Finally, compactors replaced the scrubbers & all burning stopped. To make a long story short, I vote for a spark arrestor.

Mark, as I said, spark arrestors were needed for incinerators in places where everything was closer in proximity. If you're only burning wood in a rural area then maybe you don't need it. However, it certainly can't hurt.
