Hi -
We have HVAC (heating and AC) ducts that run through our garage. They are insulated (except where the ducts touch the walls) with foil bubble wrap. We noticed that condensation builds up and mold is forming on the foil wrap.
Options presented to us were as follows:
1. Clean the foil wrap and install large dehumidifier in garage
2. Remove the foil wrap, replace with fiberglass insulation and install large dehumidifier in garage
3. Remove the ducts, have new ducts wrapped entirely in fiberglass insulation installed and and install large dehumidifier in garage
We are opting for option 2 but my concern is the vapor barrier. Is foil lined fiberglass insulation a suitable insulator for a garage setting?
Also, we are well aware that the dehumidifier may help but will likely be unable to keep up with the moisture in an unconditioned (although well sealed) garage.
We are located in the north east.
Thanks in advance
