I've got a set of concrete stairs and a retaining wall that were probably built when the house was, in the '70s. I've been here about 10 years and didn't really think about doing concrete maintenance, but a contractor who was here for something else said that I'd better clean and seal them before they get more water damage. I'm busy removing the moss and have bought some sealant (this stuff), but was wondering, does putting sealant preclude doing any repair work to the concrete? The steps tilt very slightly back, trapping a bit of water, and it would make more sense if they tilted slightly forward, but I'm not sure any new concrete would bond to the old, so this may be a moot issue!
My main concern is what I should do to keep these steps usable and not have them require being totally redone ( a huge job), how they look is of lesser importance. The other steps don't necessarily have a visible crack the way the top step does, but the fact that they get a little standing water is not great. I'm just looking for another opinion on whether I should go ahead with the sealer or if there is anything else I should do.
