Hi everyone, I recently purchased a home with a stairway that leads to the basement from the outside. It has cinderblock walls along the stairs. Some of the mortar is missing in between The joints as seen in the attached picture. I have done some research and it looks like filling the joints with new mortar is the best way to go about this. Will doing so be a solid, structurally sound fix? I would like to do this the right way, and I am just concerned about how I will get the mortar to fill the entire depth of the joint, so that it doesn’t eventually box or collapse. The wall does not visually look like it has a bow or lean to it. If so it is not much. Thanks for the help.

Will using a mortar bag and filler, fill the gap deep enough to hold the wall together and prevent it from further damage? It seems like the back portion of the block wouldn’t be held together, unless I really packed it tight with mortar. Is this correct? Thank you for your help so far
