I'm trying to run a small gauge wire (RJ45) on top of some outdoor decking so it can fall through below to the lower deck. There is a device I need to plug into the GFCI outdoor outlet (w/ large weatherproof cover) and drop a cable down below. I can't drill directly below right off of the house and through the deck because of the flashing, so I was planning to run a wire from the outlet, across/through a 1/2" groove in the deck's wood, and then through a gap between boards below.
Hard to describe but the outlet is located on the exterior of the house similar to any other house (built in 2010). The decking boards run parallel to a sliding glass door. So I have to come off the house by about two boards before I have a gap I can use due to the flashing below. The goal is to avoid a tripping hazard and I would place something like a planter above it when completed anyway.
My guess is I shouldn't do any cuts at all into pressure treated wood so if that's the case, are there other options? Something like silicone for wood that will keep the cut weatherproof/moldproof?
