I replaced some bilco/bulkhead doors out of 1" (3/4" true thickness) pressure treated. I could not find tongue and groove material so I did it myself. After construction I am astonished at the amount of shrinkage/warping that has taken place as the lumber has dried. Refer to pictures; one piece has warped more than an inch and opened a severe leak.
1) Is it ill advised to use pressure treated in this application? Should I have let it "dry" for a period of time before constructing? I am surprised pressure treated has moved this much.
2) I plan to replace the severely warped board, reconstruct to account for the shrinkage and finally cover the seams with battens. Is this a good solution?
Aside from using steel doors, does anyone else have comments/solutions?
Thanks,
Mark
