Hello everyone! This is my first post here, so glad that I found this site.
I'm wanting to mount a pull up bar to my garage ceiling, and I'm specifically looking at doing this on what I assume is a giant brace running through my garage (see picture below).
The area in question has a height of 12" and a width of around 6" and spans the length of the garage, so my best guess is that it is 3 2x12's oriented vertically. I've got a fairly large bonus room above my garage. Am I right in my assumptions regarding the purpose/design?
Back to my original point, I am wanting to set up a ceiling mounted pull up bar that can support my bodyweight(~155) + 100 or so extra lbs - so total load could potentially be 250 lbs. My biggest concern is drilling into a vital support piece that I shouldn't be messing with... Does anyone have any input/experience with this?
In lieu of traditional joists, I've got engineered I-beams under the bonus room that run perpendicular to the brace. I've looked into mounting to the I-beams, but honestly it scares me and I'd rather avoid that, if possible.
Thanks in advance!
