Hi All,
Stairs... i would like my basement stair railing to look like the second picture (the railing will be shorter because my distance is shorter)
I have framed the knee wall beside the stringers and have fastened it to the stringer.
Once good enough, i will bolt it to the ground. BUT, before that. do i need to have 2 top plates? am i good with one?
the area in which i am going to place the newel post (currently void), i am going to use 2 pieces of 2x4s to close off that part of the frame. secure the newel post into the stringer and knee wall.
so before i drywall that section, i just want to make sure that i am okay with 1 piece of wood as my top plate and that my approach is sound
Thank you.
p.s. this framed section (bolted into the stringer) is very sturdy.
