Apparently code says that anything in the basement, finished or unfinished, must be gfci protected.
For a line that has only hardwired light fixtures on it; options (that i know of at least..) seem limited. GFCI breakers are an option. Tho an expensive one. - I was wondering about lines that have both lights and outlets on them.
1. Gfci outlets only protect outlets downstream from it. But does that include hardwired light fixtures as well?
2. If a gfci outlet was the first thing on the line, would it protect all light fixtures down stream?
3. IF the gfci outlet actually did protect light fixtures downstream.. would that count for meeting with code? Or would it simply require gfci breaker for basement light fixtures?
Iv been wondering that for a few years now.. it got the better of me and im finally asking.
Thank you for any insight!
