After a few false starts (and threads to go with them), I'm about to get started on laying sod.
Back story: I had the concrete in front of my house redone and they dumped several loads of 'dirty' (rocks, sticks, etc) river sand in. In some places, it's 4"-5" deep. It killed all the grass.
I'd like to go ahead and lay some sod in the nest 3-4 weeks, but there's just so much sand.
My plan is:
The problem is that I'm not sure how to deal with the sand. Removing it by hand would be a whole lot of work, not to mention what to do with the sand I pick up. It could be a lot of sand.
What do y'all recommend to make removal of a portion of that sand doable?
Thanks,
Bob...

My plan is:
- Remove a portion of the sand
- spread some top soil over the top and 'quick grade' it to get it to about 1" below the concrete
- Roto-till it all
- use a water roller to pack it a bit (not too much) before laying the sod down
- Lay the sod
