So...the thought of replacing my current 30 year old 80% gas furnace crossed my mind. The first thing I did was to search for likely candidates based on physical dimensions including 48" height with plenum on top, but have found only ~33 inch high models. So much for easy swapping in a like replacement. Are we talking using a 33" model and adding an additional plenum to make up the 15" difference?

OK. Great feedback. Thanks. I'd say this is a job for professionals, given the scope of all the variables. TBH, I had never imagined that I would attempt to replace a working furnace, except that I stumbled across DIY video's while learning about how to replace a DHW heater. Fact is, the entire house needs an HVAC update.
