I have a 300 sqft or so area of space over a crawlspace where there are 2x6 floor joists, 16" oc, spanning about 10 feet. It was constructed in 1960 and would seem to be slightly overspanned. There is some 1x bracing between them, 5/8" subfloor that I am planning on adding a 1/2" layer to before doing vinyl plank.
If I bounce on the floor midway between the length of the joists I can hear the HVAC trunk or duct branches or gas line/hangers or electrical conduit (something) in the crawlspace squeaking. Maybe slight bounce/give to the floor itself.
Should I be doing something to beef these up before another couple layers of flooring goes in?
It might be difficult to get any 10ft 2x of a different width in there because the access is via a 16" x 16" panel in the floor of a closet and the space is only about 3 to 4 ft deep.
