In school 40 yrs ago they taught electricity is trying to find ground, not true its trying to find its source, it can go through ground to get there. It also takes all paths available to it to get there, Thats why grounds and neutrals are seperate in subpanels today.

But when you say four wire is it

two hot
one neutral
one ground??

The hott are they normally black and red correct?

Correct

Black and red= ungrounded conductors(hot)

White= grounded conductor (neutral)

bare copper or green= Ground wire

Now I must ask why two hot conducting wires?

Is there a certain order you want to have the black and the red?
