My situation is a little differnt than your standard wall with sheetrock. Going to install baseboard trim. Exterior walls are 5/8" T&G cedar over drywall. This makes it nearly impossible to find the studs in the wall, even with a Franklin stud finder.
I own both an 18g brad nailer and a 16g finish nailer, both cordless.
If I'm nailing into the 5/8" T&G, I'm wondering if it's not as critical to go into each stud? Also if the T&G is 5/8" and the baseboard trim I'm using is also 5/8" that's a total of 1 1/4" of material. Am I ok using 1 1/2" nails, or should I go to 1 3/4 or even 2"?
I'll probably use the 16g nails for the baseboards and door casing, with the exception of using the 18g nails near the miters to prevent splitting. Is this a good plan?
Appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.
