I would like to jnstall an hanging chair/swing strong enough for an adult reading a book to a kid in this bedroom. It would be approximately at the green tape that is alone, it was just to estimate the required space.
My issue is that I do not have joist but have 2x4 trusses above the ceiling, that are 24 inches apart. I read a little bit on the web and figured that all situations are different, so I want to show my thoughts about it and see if you think my plan makes sense.
Here is a rough plan of how the trusses are made, the measurements could be a few inches off, I was alone in the attic. The chair/swing would be between point A and point D. From what I saw, the 2x4 at the bottom seems to be in one piece from B to D, which seems to be a good thing for my project. Here are pictures of strategic points in case it can help figuring it the best solution.
From what I read on similar situations, I believe that, to make everything stronger, I should put a (or many) 4x4 between the 2x4 to make it more stable, and add on top of it a long 2x4 that « sits » on a few trusses. On the next picture, the 4x4 would be the yellow drawing (G) between E and F. I didn’t draw anything for the 2x4 in terms of clarity for the rest of my questions.
-Would you also put the green ones 4x4 with the trusses on each side to stabilise everything?if so, would you put them in a direct line (also in relation to third question)

- Where would you anchor the chair/swing? Directly on one of the trusses, on the added 4x4? Any anchor would do the job as it would be an a strong joist of I should pick a specific anchor?
- For the long 2x4 that would be on top of everything), how many trusses do you believe it should cover?
- i also read about putting vertical 2x4, such as one between F and H? Is it a good idea? How many?
- As a wrap up question, am I mixing efficiently good ideas, doing too much or not going in the right direction? I prefer doing more than risking someone falling and hurting himself.
- If my 2x4 trusses are aligned with wall studs (forget to check, I’ll do it next time…), is it simpler? If they are not aligned with trusses but are « available », would it be possible to just « add » a strong enough wood piece/beam that would only support the hanging chair?
