Ayuh,...If you Cut the fitting off, there'll be no more threads to attach a new fitting...

What's the ultimate goal,..??

 

Bondo, I will not cut down to the threads, I will break the final layer.

The house was built in 1972 and the fitting has a brown colored sealer. I have had pipe wrenches on and it won't budge. My thought was to take my 4 1/2 in cutoff wheel and cut shallow then break the 90.

 

Also, I will be cutting the fitting NOT the pipe.

 

Bigger pipe wrenches? Use snipes? You've got to be able to crack open a 3/4" fitting.

 

I've used larger pipe wrenches. I'm also not a small guy. I'm afraid I may break the pipe if I pull too hard.

I think my two options are:

1. cut the 90 and break the final layer.

2. Use a propane tourch and try a heat the fitting to break down the pipe sealer. I would rather not use this method.

 

I'd zip cut two grooves 1/4" or so apart, almost to the threads, then try to hammer a screwdriver between the cuts and pry the piece out. Then try the wrenches again.

Get some 36 or 48'' pipe wrenches & buck the pipe with 1 wrench . I've taken off fittings on houses built in the 20-30's

I gave it one last try with my large pipe wrench and liquid wrench, it came loose. Thanks to All who gave their input!:thumbsup:
