You either use the 1/4 or 3/8 or both. But whatever one you are not using make sure it's got cap with a o-ring. I use 3/8 as much as possible. Go out and buy some 1/4 female by 3/8 fittings and a couple 3/8 hoses at united refrigeration or wherever you buy your supplies.
