I have an outlet that the circuit branch terminates in (wire coming in and ending). I want to extend this wire along the wall to two new sconces. Access can not be gained from the floor above or below. How would you do this? Would you just cut a channel in the drywall (me 1/2" drywall and 1/2" plaster), insert the wire and patch? I maybe have 10' to go. What happens when you come to a 2x4?

What happens when you come to a 2x4?

You notch it or drill a hole thru it. If you notch it you need to install a nailing plate over the notch

It's that simple? There isn't any better way?

Would you cut the channel the whole 10 ft, or just cut a channel at each 2x4 where you notch and fish it through the wall between the 2x4s?

Cut as little as possible and fish what you can. Less patching is always better.
