Wood shim between joist and subfloor plywood

Ive googled and didnt come up with much. I have a 4ft piece of wood cut from a 2x10, that fits well to correct a section of a joist to shim it level. Its 1/4 thick on one end and tapers to about 1/16th on the other end. If I glued and pre drilled holes for screws, would this hold up in a bathroom?

It could work, but you may find better results in sistering the joist with a full size piece of lumber, screwing it in place to take up the gap.
